Would you like to experience Arctic student life and enjoy the Finnish summer atmosphere with the midnight sun, clean air and blooming nature? Welcome to the Arctic Summer Programme, a new two-week summer study programme for international students right in the heart of Northern Finland!
The Arctic Summer Programme offers you the opportunity to experience the authentic local study life in Oulu for two weeks. You can enjoy the unique summer atmosphere of Northern Finland but also create new connections and improve your study and communication skills within one of the best education systems in the world. You will get to know the University of Oulu as well as the city of Oulu together with your co-students. The programme includes many cultural events and free-time activities, all taking place on August 4th – 15th, 2025.
The programme consists of 2-4 hours of classes every day, including lectures, student activities, and group work.
Courses
- Arctic and Nordic Perspectives on Sustainable Development (5 ECTS)
- Global Citizenship Education (5 ECTS)
- (Eco)critical Sustainability (2 ECTS)
- Summer School on AI, IoT, and Digital Twin (2 ECTS or 5 ECTS)
- Sustainability assessment (5 ECTS)
- Summer School on Structural Engineering in the AI Era (2 ECTS or 5 ECTS)
Activities
The social activities of the programme will be a great opportunity to connect with other Arctic Summer Programme participants and experience the authentic Finnish Summer. After the lectures, you can get to know your friends and the city of Oulu.
Social activities will include:
- Welcome & Farewell Party
- Campus Tour, Oulu City Tour
- Picnic and Playing “mölkky”, a traditional outdoor summer game
- One-day excursion to Rovaniemi, Hailuoto, or other local nature site (To be confirmed)
- Berry picking / Baking “pulla” and mustikkapiirakka, Finnish delicacies!
